Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Board of Trustees Meet
The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Board of Trustees fall meetings were held on September 27-28, 2023. Nineteen dedicated members met online dividing into their Committees and then coming together where they had the privilege of listening to General Superintendent, Dr. David Busic, bring greetings and share a devotional.
Dr. Busic shared from Psalm 121. “I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” The question of application to the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ leadership was “Is this where my help comes from? Only the one true God?” Dr. Busic reiterated that there is no other solution other than God.
It was special to hear greetings from Dr. Klaus Arnold, Global Education and Clergy Development Director and Dr. Samantha Chambo, Regional Education Coordinator of USA/Canada. Three Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Board members gave testimonials and affirmation of trusteeship. Rev. Daniel Cole, Executive Committee member, shared his calling from God to serve as an Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Board member, not just as a position. Dr. Donna Alder, Vice Chair, shared her story of how she was used to influence a church in its role of supporting Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ. Board Chair, Dr. Phil Fuller, reviewed the Trustees covenant which seeks to make a difference by their commitment to the purposes of Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.
The Board Governance Committee reviewed Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s new process for electing new board members and proposed several helpful changes which were adopted by the board.
Dr. Scott Sherwood, shared his President’s report, after serving as Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ President for a little over 2 years now. He stated that the denomination needs Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ to continue to prepare adults for evangelism, discipleship, and ministry to the world, who will be deployed into pastorates ready to be enthusiastic, effective advocates for Nazarene doctrine, ethics and mission. Dr. Sherwood affirmed that Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ has a 56-year track record of accomplishing being such a trustworthy partner. The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Board approved “The Campaign for Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ” a multi-year capital campaign which will launch publicly in September 2024.
Meetings concluded after a time of strategic and generative conversation in break out rooms that will serve to guide the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Board of Trustees leadership in the future.
